Guillermo,

I would suggest that you create a test database which is an exact clone of this database. A good idea is to create that test database by recovering a backup copy of the production database. Then you can test any of your proposed changes before performing them on production, plus get an idea of how much time they will take.

Oh wait . . . . here it comes . . . management doesn't want to devote enough storage space to let you create a test copy of this database. Sorry that always seems to be the response to the above statement. Actually, since this database holds SAP data, that probably means the uncontrollability of this database threatens the very viability of the organization itself, so they may be more willing to spring for the hardward.
