Whenever I get that response, my response is "Okay, can you please show me where Oracle has recommended this?" If they can't provide some documentation, whitepaper or metalink notes that is less than 5 years old, then their claim is clearly invalid. If they proceed to tell you something like "some guy at Oracle support recommended it", then you might want to consider talking to a different rep, or a different vendor. Of course there's also the fact that just because Oracle recommends something doesn't make it right. Momma always said "If Oracle recommended to jump off a bridge, would you do it?" :)
