Changes by ASMM (or AMM in 11g -- not sure about the behaviour in 11g) are not logged in the alert.log. However, the spfile does get updated at shutdown (Thus, if __db_cache_size and __shared_pool_size got dynamically changed 20 times, there are no entries in the alert.log but the last set of values are wriitten into the spfile at shutdown (the other 19 changes don't appear anywhere except in v$SGA_RESIZE_OPS).
