I won't try to troubleshoot your use of pre-installed Perl binaries, other than
to say you should try removing PERL5LIB from the environment, if it is set.
Oracle often sets this.
A better solution IMO is to install a completely separate version of Perl,
by you for whatever you need to do with it.
This allows you to control what modules are installed, etc. It also avoids modifying system specific, and app specific versions of perl.
Compiling Perl on Solaris may be a bit troublesome, but you probably should
take the time to figure it out, and then you will have the knowledge to set
on other systems
Join the DBI Users mailing list, Perl list(s), or visit usenet groups.
You're won't be the first person to build Perl on Solaris, 64 bit or otherwise.
Don't however ask here how to do it.
