I just wrote a note "Process-Oriented Performance Monitoring" to bring to DBAs' attention that general instance performance monitoring is inadequate and process or session specific data must be acquired. The example script is meant to be lightweight yet essential. Some comments may be interesting in general, such as querying v$sqlstats in 10g instead of v$sql, cross-reference of `top' and Oracle sessions, etc. See
