There is an 'Oracle' way (in 10.2 at least, I haven't checked earlier versions): keep your archivelogs in a flash recovery area and set the RMAN command CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO APPLIED ON STANDBY. Regards
