Restore Controlfile from Autobackup Question

Oracle 10.2.0.3, Enterprise Edition, on AIX 5.3.

I am testing Oracle database backup and recovery on our development database using incremental backups. On disk I have an RMAN Incremental Level 0 backup and about 8 days worth of RMAN Incremental Level 1 backups and RMAN archived log backups. I am using a Recovery Catalog.

My plan was to restore the DEVL database to a different host but with the same SID and the same DBID. I was thinking that RMAN would know exactly where all the backups are and would thus be able to easily perform the recovery. But I am now reading in the Oracle documentation that keeping the same SID and same DBID means I need to do the recovery using "Restore Controlfile from Autobackup" and without connecting to the RMAN catalog.

So my question is, will RMAN be aware of my incremental backups if it performs a recovery using the controlfile from autobackup? If RMAN could connect to the Catalog, it would have this information immediately available, but in this scenario, RMAN does not connect to the catalog. So is this information stored together with the control file auto backup? Or will RMAN just use the archived log files?

Thanks,
