And what happens if you set local_listener to DUMMY (say) as mentioned in ML Note:235562.1

I haven't tried this on but it sure used to disable automatic registration in 9i

There is always a default service which defaults to SID name

  I have this configuration :

  FINNTEST> show parameter local

    NAME TYPE VALUE

------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
local_listener string FINNTESTSB FINNTEST> show parameter service NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
service_names string FINNTESTSB.CEG.CORP.NET

  listener.ora :

        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = = 1557))

  and get this :
  lsnrctl stat FINNTESTSB

Is there a way to get rid of the SID registration?   Finn
