Except that active database duplication does not require any backup at all. It's real time, across the network. Saves a lot of time there. :-)

Technically, it *should* be possible to do it in 10.2 as well. Just not automated in a single duplicated command. But all the duplicate does is a backup as copy, and then recovers that.

I haven't tested it ... Would be worth investigating, though

Does anyone know if V11 RMAN can interoperate against lower version databases?

Unfortunately I'm in no position to test this capability myself.
