Oracle 10gR2/Linux:
During our last EMC-Clarion maintenance redundant disk paths were
utilized to execute "hot" connection replacements. ASM was the only
piece of software that failed, also crashing one of our databases. ASM
can be configured to withstand
this, but is seems like it is not part of default install.
Note:309815.1 Configuring Oracle ASMLib on Multipath Disks
Even for 11g:

<quote>
Although ASM is not designed with multipathing functionality, ASM does
operate with multipathing technologies
</end quote>
Besides raw devices, ASMLib can also be used to present disks to ASM.
