I'm no licensing expert either, but I don't believe you need to buy any additional licenses for a standby if you already have database licenses for all CPUs on the server. Once the CPUs of a server are licensed, I believe you can run as many primary and/or standby instances on that server as you want. Of course, you'd have to check with your Oracle sales rep for the official answer.

Does it mean that if I have a server running multiple Oracle instances and I am already paying for the Oracle licenses for that server (based on the CPU licensing model), if I decide to run a standby instance on that server, I will have to pay extra for the standby license ?
