For me it really was that simple. I spent a little bit of time wading through some of the documentation but didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere. I then had a very short conversation with someone from Oracle and he basically said the same thing to me as I wrote yesterday. So, I said f it and started the installation. The repository was going onto a clean server and the first managed node was a test server….I really didn’t have anything to loose. Maybe I just got lucky. ….It was easier than installing the database with my nose.

Oh, if only it was that simple.

Whilst not on RH – using Solaris Sparc (10.2.0.3) I have had numerous attempts at creating a repository, either in a new or existing database. All I get after about 4 hours of running is that dbca has failed (whether or not I have asked to create a new database). That is about it.

So I do hope it turns out to be as simple as Chris Stephens suggests

Pick a server for the grid control repository.

Move grid control download to that server.

Launch installer.

Create repository in new database or existing database.

Answer questions installer asks.

Move grid control download to server you want to monitor.

Launch installer.

Install agent.

Answer questions installer asks.

Repeat for all managed nodes.
