... I have done this for RAC/ASM to Single Instance ASM. The key is effective disk group design (compare with transportable tablespaces and contained sets). Depending on your device management technology you can effect this. I used the EMC/BCV split to move from RAC/ASM to single instance for BCDR and for other purposes and that is pretty straight forward.
