Tim Hall has a tested process for this (well, almost, he used OEL instead of RHEL, but that shouldn't matter). Check your notes against his recommended procedure at http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR1RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVMware.php

Hopefully, you'll find the thing or two you missed.

Tried to install 11g under Red Hat 5 under VMWARE server which
runs under Windows XP hung after the installation process started.
