Ghassan,

Disk based replication is actively marketed by the hardware vendors as it potentially locks the customer in to same kind of storage. If you have an EMC DMX at the primary, you need to have the same kind of storage array at the standby site, where as in dataguard you can go with a CX or a NetApp SAN. Also there is a fine line which dictates the software (oracle) license terms.

BTW anyone is using the Veritas Volume Replicator these days? Just curious. :)
