After actually reading the documentation I just referred you to, I see it says the opt_param hint is only valid for the parameters OPTIMIZER_DYNAMIC_SAMPLING, OPTIMIZER_INDEX_CACHING, OPTIMIZER_INDEX_COST_ADJ, OPTIMIZER_SECURE_VIEW_MERGING, and STAR_TRANSFORMATION_ENABLED. So if that's true then it won't work for setting db_file_multiblock_read, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did work, but just isn't supported. Still worth a try I suppose - let us know if you test it and if it works or not.
