I partially agree - HPOV is limited, but not so limited to only nodes/machines. It sounds like you don't have the DB-SPI (Smart Plug-in). If you have the DB-SPI for Oracle, it will monitor much more than just the node (see list of available metrics here: http://ovweb.external.hp.com/ovnsmdps/pdf/spidb5.0or.pdf), but it still won't monitor as much, or monitor it as well as 10g OEM (DB Console or Grid Control).

I've never used OV for RAC since we don't run RAC currently, but here is a whitepaper I just found specifically on OV with RAC: http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/5982-6299EN.pdf

OVO is 'limited' in its ability to monitor Oracle products. It seems to be focused primarily on 'nodes/machines'. We actually monitor all Oracle products through grid control and send alerts to OV for the central monitoring console.
