Have you granted AUDIT SYSTEM privilege to yourself?    

SQL> show parameter audit_trail  

NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
------------------------------------ -----------
------------------------------
audit_trail                          string      DB


Any more ideas on what could be wrong?
