What was the solution - did you/they disable the firewall completely, or just open certain ports or IP addresses? I don't know that much about firewalls - maybe they can be configured to allow only certain programs through too, e.g. they could set it to only allow sqlplus on port 1521 (or whatever your listener is on) - and not allow rman or any other program? Any other network savvy folks on the list know if that's possible?

I am wondering this too. They are both connecting to the listener on the same port. I was thinking maybe there's some other ports that RMAN uses too?
