Well IBM zSeries and Linux x86/x64_86 are different platforms. You can use transportable tablespaces with, possibly, conversion using RMAN if they have different endian.

In this thread we were talking about Linux x86 vs Linux x64_86 which are the same platform but different "bitness".

So your "technical specialist" is right - you can use old fashioned export/import, data pump export/import or over the network, or transportable tablespaces with either export/import or data pump.
