Only if the dev/test environment do not change that often. Usually there are lots of changes of machines/instances when you support more than 100 developers and more than 100 machines, and it is not easy to test auto start/stop script (require machine reboot)

I'm curious: Why not auto-start dev and test?

We are set up the same. Production auto starts. Dev and test do not. SAs know to call if there is an issue on restart.

Works great. I love my sleep.
