Oh my God. Yes, excellent journey...

I'm back now; (I was just envisioning this happening).

I'll give the proposal a try though, at least for diagnostics pack on one server, $12,000, (throw in Tuning Pack), $12,000. (with my 50% discount 'cause we are so small)... $12,000. :-) What can they say? No?

But we have two more! $72,000/2 = $36,000 for minimum coverage: "What a deal, eh?"

I'm now happy, and my sales rep; she is quite happy. ...Better than a credit card.

BTW:   P.S. Is it true that I can create an account and hand it off to 'a data owner', and he can click a job (so to speak), that will refresh a development database residing on a physically different server than the production database? ('cloning' I believe - as opposed to me doing it via RMAN duplicating -- where I have to physically ftp all the archives/backups over first). (OEM will do the file movement or creation)?

Yes, each pack is licensed separately per processor per host being managed. Monitoring is free.

Config mgmt: $3k/processor
Change mgmt: $3k/processor
tuning pack: $3k/processor
Diagnostics: $3k/processor

Provisioning: $3k/processor

Sooo.... for one 4 processor server for all of the grid control functionality, $60k list. Hey, they'll drop you a 50% discount, to $30k. Spend that across your whole environment, and for one three server environment you're up to almost $100k in licensing costs. Not to mention annual support, etc.

What a deal, eh?

Matt

My understanding is that Grid Control is free as long as you're using it to monitor other licensed products - see "Infrastructure Repository Databases" here:
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/edi tions.htm#CJAHFHBJ

It's the additional management packs that will cost you. The Diagnostics Pack is the only one I would recommend - it includes ASH, AWR, ADDM, etc.:
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/opt ions.htm#CIHHIGBI

The Diagnositcs Pack currently lists at $3000 per CPU: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/opt ions.htm#CIHHIGBI

Brandon

I want them to license OEM Grid. For what I guess is $40,000? per 4 processor server?
