Well for starters you should look up their web site & see if you can find the documentation for the dbms. Most companies are doing that now as it is economical & allows for easy comparison. In marketing terms weeding out the looky loos. Second I'd try to figure out how much code/application re-write would be needed to make the move. I was involved in a project that moved data from Oracle into PostGreSql (Yes I know it's not the same as Progress). The application was a 40% re-write due to differences between the two. Assuming that your company can tolerate that try to download a demo copy of the software & do a proof of concept project on it. Something that is low cost, lower expectancy, and easily tossed in the trash if it fails. You'll get a lot more information out of that little skunk works project than you could ever imagine & consequently a good feel for what the larger project will entail. Also, while your at it, introduce that little skunk into the rest of your infrastructure, BI tools, etc... To see how well this new dbms will integrate. That could become the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Subject: Differences between Oracle and Progress

Dear List
I have been tasked to produce a list showing the major differences between Oracle and a Progress database. May you please help me with websites, docs and personal research info, and experience that you might have working with Progress. We are currently using Oracle 9.2 for our application.

Thamk you for all the help.

Regards
