Hello Guys,

Friday I announced the Pythian Goodies sessions. Today, I released the first movie in the series. The topic is "Flash Recovery Area" and can be found at http://www.pythian.com/blogs/381/pythian-goodies-oracle-flash-recovery-area/

Have a look. Feel to comment it in the blog.

Here's a description of what Pythian Goodies is about.

From: http://www.pythian.com/blogs/378/announcing-pythian-goodies/

Here at Pythian, we always look to increase our knowledge and stay on top of the technology. Often we find ourselves explaining how a specific technology works. Sometimes it's one-on-one, sometimes there is a group of people that needs information.

I've been wondering for a while now how best to transfer knowledge efficiently and in a fun way. Presentations are good, but they require a lot of effort in preparation and research, and they are not as interactive as they could be when the group is smaller.

To answer some of these issues, I would like to introduce you to "Pythian Goodies".

What is a Pythian Goody session?

It's similar to a presentation session, except that it has no slides. It's similar to a classroom, except questions are expected and welcome at all times.
It resembles a guided debate. The idea is to involve the attendees as much as possible, thus keeping their full attention throughout the session. Everyone in the audience should ask at least one question, and the presenter will ensure that everyone had their question turn. Each Pythian Goody has a topic that builds on a general concept, occasionally and briefly, focusing in on specific details at the presenter's discretion, or when requested by the audience. Sessions last about 30-40 minutes.

You might be asking how you can sign up? Well, you basically have to apply for a job at Pythian! :-) However, I also thought, how can we transfer this experience to our colleagues in our India and Australia (and soon UK) offices? Simple — we record it with a camera. The easiest way we found to distribute these videos is via YouTube.

And now here's the good part, since we already have all the work done, we decided to let the entire DBA community watch these Pythian Goodies videos and learn from them. The nice thing about putting the videos on the blog is that we can all also contribute to them, discuss them, develop further subtleties, etc.

I would like to extend my invitation to a debate to all of you watching the videos. When you watch them and have a question, record the time index and ask the question, right here in this blog. Each Pythian Goody session will have its own blog post.

I will post the very first session from the Pythian Goodies — Flash Recovery Area — on Monday. I'll be posting using an embedded YouTube window, and also in an iPod-video-compatible format for those of you who would watch this sort of thing during your commute.

Your feedback is most welcome as always.
