Ana,

Our local Oracle Users' Group had a great presentation on Upgrade Best Practices last week. Check at www.tcoug.org in a week or so and the presentation will be posted there.

The key suggestion was to have the users agree on key performance indicators BEFORE the upgrade. Then run some benchmarks BEFORE the upgrade and document the performance. Then, after the upgrade, confirm those benchmarks and this will help you pinpoint where your performance issues are.

Too often, a site will simply upgrade, and in the hazy memory of the users, they will insist that the system ran like a screaming banshee before the upgrade and now runs like a lazy turtle. But nobody has any numbers so you don't know who to believe or where to start.
