RE: pl/sql to be desupported in favor of java?

This rumor has been around since java was introduced into the database. PL/SQL is not going away anytime soon. Oracle alone has millions of lines of Pl/sql in all its applications, not to mention all the vendors apps and their customers that depend on it. And since the apps bring in the bulk of revenue nowadays Oracle will not waste its time recoding everything to java, their internal apps development team probably drives the requirements for much of the enhancements made to pl/sql (and sql) over the last few years. Pl/sql is as vital to the database as is sql.

It took the RBO almost 10 years to be de-supported from the official announcement and going from the RBO to the CBO was much easier than going from pl/sql to java will be, so I am NOT learning java anytime soon. While both languages have their advantages in the right situation, in my opinion pl/sql is superior for data processing operations.

Well enough of my 3am rant.

Someone at work had it down in writing! I couldn't believe it. I have since asked them for proof and not heard back. Thought I'd check to see if I had missed one of the biggest news in the oracle history.

Where did you hear that? I think not! Certainly not in 11g! I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future.

Hello again, everyone,

Someone has just brought this up to my attention and I thought "What? Why haven't I heard of this?" Has anyone heard of this rumor? What version of Oracle are we talking about? 11g?

Ta,

Leng.
