Actually snapshot technology and RMAN are not mutually exclusive. A popular configuration is to take a snapshot, then mount that snapshot on a recovery server, then use RMAN to back up that database. That way you get the advantage of both technologies. You get the quick speed of the snapshot which puts minimal load on your production server, then you get the catalog capabilities of RMAN in case you ever need to recover something different from the last backup.
