One 'problem' you might meet with the recycle bin, if you are running 10.1.0.2 (only), is very slow responses when querying DBA_FREE_SPACE. It seems that the join to the receycle bin affects performance. There's a patch in the 10.1.0.3 patch kit whihc solves the problem.

This is detailed on Metalink as bug 3492682.
