I'm caught between the two.

I prefer Inmon's architecture, but Kimball's books.

Kimball provides good tools, examples, etc in his books.

Inmon is hard to read. I do prefer his architecture however. That is, a DW is a repository of time series data. This is rarely queried by users, and is used to create DM that are used by users.

Different approches, Kimball's is easier to start small with however.

Inmon's requires more commitment up front, but is ultimately more flexible and powerful.
