TimesTen can be very useful to any project that has to handle high throughput conditions (e.g. inserting streams of data into the DB, with high insert rates, insert times I measured where around 30µsecs, (table+index). ) It also has a replication engine that's fast enough, and can even replicate data back to Oracle.

Look at their doc on oracle's web site. If you have any specific question, I'll try to answer.
