RAID 5 should be fast for reads - unless you have a significant amount of writes occurring at the same time. Do you see a disk I/O bottleneck when you're running the backups? What do you see the backup sessions spending waiting on?

Subject: Slow RMAN Backups

Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone has experienced poor backup times with oracle databases on RAID 5?
