db corruption

environment: Oracle EE 9.2.0.7/AIX 5.2

We had a bit of a scare a few weeks ago when RMAN reported a corrupt block during a backup. V$DATABASE_BLOCK_CORRUPTION had no data, a dbverify showed up nothing and an export also showed nothing. We reviewed Note:28814.1 (Handling Oracle Block Corruptions in Oracle7/8/8i/9i/10g) during the crisis which helped. After talking to oracle it was decided that it was a false alarm. Oracle told us that they couldn't investigate and we didn't pursue it.

We were wondering what other shops do to detect corruption. Also does anyone have any recommended reading for how to fix it once it's been detected? This is probably the hardest part depending on the extent of the damage.

Thanks.
Joe
