Sean,

This is slightly off-topic but an alternative to DVB is to let the operating system handle data integrity/verification. Sun is about to release a new file system called ZFS. I have a short blog here:

I know that you are using Windows 2000 so this does not apply to your specific situation now but I just thought I should let you know about alternatives that are out there.
