One more update. Our sales rep connected me to the Oracle development group and apparently they are working on restoring the ability to run mulitiple listeners on the same port if you use different virtual IPs.

No ETA on when they will restore that functionality however.

Subject: RE: 10.2 listener won't start on same port as 9.2 listener

Just a follow up.

I could get all three listeners to run *if* I start the 10.2 listener first. This works since the reason it won't start otherwise is that they've added code which checks if anything is listening on that port and returns an error message if there is. This is obviously not a real solution though.

Oracle added this to resolve a bug where the wrong error message was being given if you tried to start a listener when it was already running. So to fix a bad error message the entire functionality was removed.

I'm going to file an enhancement request but the analyst warned me it probably won't be granted.

Ah, well. The company is merging soon so I probably won't have to deal with these systems by this time next year...

Thanks for the help,

Jay Miller
