funny you should ask. I've got a PoC underway now with 8 dual proc single socket Opteron blades attached to a formidable FC SAN and plan to do just that ... I'll be writing a paper once I have the numbers ...

oh, I'm also testing apples-apples 2socket single core Opteron versus 2socket dual core Opteron :-) ... but those results wont go in the paper :-)
