Subject: logs

My boss asked me what logs we can have our HelpDesk monitor for errors. Other than the alert log, what other logs can they look at? We are running oracle ERP on HP unix. Are there OS logs they can see? I'm not that familiar with HP unix and was wondering if there are system logs or such...
