Split Blocks on Instance Crash

Hi All,

I should know this but can't quite work it out - too much festive spirit perhaps :-)

Why does instance crash recovery not encounter the split blocks that you might get doing a backup without BEGIN/END BACKUP? If this instance crashes then presumably DBWR might die in the middle of writing database blocks to disk.

Why is this not a problem? (Assuming a non-journalled filesystem)

Thank you
Charlotte
