The article is stating the obvious. Why would you have a database to store the existence of a can of soup. You would have a database storing all of the ordering information related to that can of soup. And really, it will end up being stored down to the can of soup level. It will come down to food safety. E. Coli anyone? They want to store product information on meat from the farm right down to the cut on the shelf.
