Are they experiencing performance issues today? I'm guessing so, or they wouldn't be asking. It shouldn't take too much time to train them how to create a benchmark. Diagnosing tuning problems involves a lot more, and the amount of training depends on the tuning methods involved.

A lot will matter on how the source code can be changed to turn tracing on, whether detached processes are involved, etc. Being internal should allow access to source code which will help.

If several people are involved, consider visiting www.hotsos.com for presentation ideas.
Suggest having someone like Cary Millsap or Jonathan Lewis come for a short seminar.
