The "Remote Desktop Connection" is the better way to connect in the Windows environment, but Telnet can be used as well.

I believe by default now (WinXP), Telnet is disabled unless it is specifically turned on. In a Windows XP environment, go to Start, Programs, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. From there, go down to Telnet and change the startup mode to either Manual or Automatic, click Apply, then start the service.

Next, go to Start, Programs, Control Panel, Network Connections, and then change your Windows Firewall settings to allow telnet connections.

I just tried it and worked for me. Now to go back and turn it all off.
