DB Failover in case of Solaris Upgrade of DR only without Production upgrade- Any dependencies?

A Basic Qs:-

CONFIGURATION - Production DB machine is on Solaris 8 with Oracle 8i. DR machine is currently in the same configuration.
 

Qs Is it possible to Upgrade the DRS machine to Solaris 9 without upgrading the production DB Server(Solaris 8)?
 

Would DR be able to function seamlessly in case of Failover of the Database from Production to DR machine? Any anticipated issues, dependencies?
