        No, that used to be anything but Microsoft -- until MySQL and Prevayler and Cache and whatever came to front.

        I said specifically about starting something new, when you can choose your tools more or less at will. I hardly can see a reason to choose Oracle, besides the herd instinct, when one can use PostgreSQL at the low end or DB2 at the higher, and both are more ISO SQL compliant than Oracle -- not perfect, but significantly more compliant AFAICD.

        Unfortunately Oracle has such a grip on the market that it isn't listening to the few of us who'd like ISO SQL compliance, much less who'd like to have a truly relational DBMS. Going either way would endanger the current proprietary lock-in.

        No, not only of gaming. Anywhere one can really decide without a legacy.
