I'll come up with something else -

I'd present him with the problem and tell him where I want the solution to end up. I'd leave the middle part to him. And --- whatever the method that he came up with, I'd accept it as long as it didn't harm the database or the business process.

No one can read my mind and I wouldn't expect him to.

His solution will probably not be the solution that I would have come up with. However, if I second-guess his solution or trump it with my own solution I have guaranteed that he will not be doing independent thinking in the future.

If you want it done your way then do it yourself. If you want someone who you can point at a problem and have them work it out without micro-management then you have to be prepared to live with the results.
