a strange feeling is in blowing away a storage config and watching all those partitions and filesystems dissappear.

long ago around 3 am on a botched 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 upgrade instead of removing HKLM\SOFTWARE\Oracle I fat fingered a delete of the key HKLM\SOFTWARE.

windows don't work real good after that. a re-import of the registry will get you out of that jam.
