I recognize this. I have felt like a pioneer in the current organization (9iR2, 10g, grid control etc) but after having moved to another = department
suddenly found myself opposite to my former dba colleagues, which has = been
and still is rather unpleasant when it comes to conflicting professional interests.

I encountered many times a situation where I was waiting for the storage team in Kuala Lumpur to restore an RMAN backup on a server in NL in = order
for me to proceed with the recovery of the database. So instead of = having
the grip on the whole chain of "database -> tape" I had to rely on = others
for intermediate steps. And if you ask why we did not rman backup to = tape
directly I can only point to management decisions.

I screwed up once in a while at dba services but have always been able = to
fix it myself. Until I left the department. I learned not to take too = much
dba responsibilities anymore.

Kind regards,
Andre v Winssen

Screwing up isn't that bad when you are in a position to fix it = yourself. It
gets bad when you need someone else to help you with it...=20 You ever notice that when someone else screws up you don't mind helping = the
person out. The only thing you hate is the constant 'I'm sorry. Please = don't
kill me' coming out of the persons mouth over and over again.

Then when you screw up and need someone to fix something for you, you = are
the one saying 'I'm sorry. Please don't kill me'.=20 -------------- Original message --------------=20
