    What would the FCC have to do with it? Now the FTC is another matter altogether, but I don't see why they would have a problem either.

its often easier and cheaper to aquire companies than grow them yourself. They probably do more aquisitions that are not publicized. Jack Welch grew GE in large part through aquisition. Then of course laid off over 100,000 people.  

Sun and Oracle merger might get blocked by the FCC.
