If you are in the habit of "taking the db out of archivelog mode" arbitrarily, then it is likely that the database is in an unrecoverable state much of the time even after you re-enable it.

I agree. It sounds like a complete waste of time. I wish you continued good fortune (the gods have obviously been smiling because you are *still* doing this) and I wish you luck and perseverence when they decide a little fun is in order and Mr Murphy comes to visit...

Let me make some guesses at some characteristics of your >1Tb DW(s):

• tables are not partitioned
• ETL processes do not utilize EXCHANGE PARTITION or direct-path loading
• there is a lot of "merge" (a.k.a. up-sert) logic in the ETL
• bitmap indexes are more trouble than they are worth
• star transformations are an unknown

Just curious; are any of these observations true?
