Helmut,

How far back do you need to be able to perform a recovery from? Is your sysadmin going to be able to perform a recovery from, say, two weeks ago? Is there any tape backup planned?

If by "snaps", you mean the old EMV bcv split, then you should be aware that when a recovery is required, you have to perform an incomplete recovery of the database. This means you lose all prior Rman backups (if you were using Rman).

We really need more info from you regarding your full backup plan. Not quite enough information here.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Hi!

We just bought two EMC Clariion CX700 boxes as SAN storage. The boxes are primarily used for Oracle databases. Our system integrator is trying to persuade us to use "snaps" for database backups.=20

Is anybody out there running a similar configuration and can share their expieriences?

This is 9.2 on HP-UX 11i.

Thanks,
Helmut
