Make sure that both databases are exactly the same. Release to test and make sure business users are doing adequate testing. Run the same release in the same way to production. If the databases are exactly the same then it should work. =20

How if at all do people do an equivalent of source control for off the shelf apps. What I mean is, given an application, or application suite with say a client, an app server, a web site etc how do folk ensure that they have a consistent reliable build between test and prod? The source code is obviously not available since this is a COTS app scenario.
