Thats not how Oracle works. Until all those operations are complete, the online redo log could not be reused. During the subsequent instance recovery, Oracle would reapply all those changes, if required.

after shutdown abort in some cases if this was not so)   

-----i am not sure : during the abort , at the moment ,oracle changing the datafile header or controlfile imformation but not compelete.
